Kim L Wheeler - Screenwriter/Writer/Poet/Playwright

Welcome

Ever since I can recall, one of my favourite treats was a trip to the cinema. Even now, my heart still skips a beat when the lights dim and the film studio's logo comes onto the screen. The sheer expectation of becoming lost in a great story, brilliantly recounted in moving pictures, is a joy which proves hard to beat.

So when an opportunity presented itself (after thirty plus years working in the legal sector) I decided to investigate what exactly is involved in bringing a script to the screen. The more scripts I read, the more the fascination grew. The more the fascination grew, the more I began to explore my own voice as a writer, first off in poetry, prose and stage plays and later, as I began to grown in confidence, in screenwriting. A pattern soon began to emerge, whereby I found most joy and success when revolving my stories around my court,  prison, police station and legal office experiences.

Whether working as a screenwriter, producer, author, playwright or poet, the challenge is on to keep pushing at the limits of my own capabilities. This strategy has served me well with competition wins across several disciplines, leading to me becoming a produced screenwriter and playwright and a published author and poet.

During the latter half of 2016, armed with my TV Crime Drama Series 'The Judge's Wife', I was thrilled to win a place on the Creative Skillset/BFI/LSF Screenwriters' Talent Campus, a three month, arts industry subsidised mentoring programme. This experience was undoubtedly one of the most challenging and exhilarating of my writing career. The initiative saw myself and fellow 'campers' transversing broken glass and fire walking in order to conquer our fears. Trust me, it certainly made 'pitching' seem like a walk in the park!

Armed with new skills and renewed confidence, 2017 saw me venture into the world of producing for the first time. My International Screenwriting Competition winning script 'In Vino Veritas' was filmed, here in Shropshire, in August.

The film stars Mr. John Challis (Boycie from Only Fools and Horses - on right) and is currently in Post Production. It was my privilege and pleasure to work alongside a fantastic BAFTA and EMMY award winning crew, some of whom can be seen below on the set.

What a baptism of fire and complete information overload this is proving to be and I'm loving every minute!
